Kati Woeltz: How to Lose Weight and Get Toned for Your Wedding
Exercising Six Days a Week, and Still Not Seeing It
Kati wasn’t new to putting in effort. Before KMAK, she was already training 5 to 6 days a week. What she didn’t have was a body that reflected any of it, and a relationship with food that had been strained for most of her life.
She describes it plainly: she felt like she had been on a diet since she was 10 years old. Weight loss and how she looked had been a constant, background thought for as long as she could remember, something she was always managing, never free of.
The Wedding Was the Reason. It Wasn’t the Whole Story
Kati came to KMAK looking to lose weight for her wedding and get toned for the big day, and she had a clear physical goal on top of that: build muscle, get stronger, and feel good in her body for the wedding and every event leading up to it.
She was also thinking further ahead. She and her now-husband were hoping to start a family, and she wanted a healthy, fit pregnancy that would make the postpartum period easier. She has a strong family history of cardiovascular disease, and part of her motivation was staying ahead of it, proactively working to avoid medication for cholesterol, blood pressure, or diabetes down the line.
“What started as a simple mission to get in shape for the wedding has turned into a year long journey of healing my relationship with food and with my body, learning to be kinder to myself, and a complete lifestyle change.”

A Lifetime of Fad Diets That Never Stuck
By the time Kati found KMAK, she had already tried more diets and nutrition programs than she could count, going back to her teenage years, always chasing some version of the goal to lose weight and get toned. None of it felt sustainable enough to actually live with. She was honest about part of the problem too: some of it was the programs, and some of it, in her words, was just not having the follow-through to keep going.
On top of that, she was working a travel night shift job as a nurse practitioner and planning a wedding at the same time. Consistent gyms, consistent meals, and a consistent schedule were not something her life offered.

30 Pounds Down, and a Relationship With Food She No Longer Dreads
Working with Coach Tanja, Kati did exactly what she set out to do, lose weight and get toned for her wedding, dropping 30 pounds over the course of the year and building visible muscle and tone alongside it. But the number on the scale isn’t what she points to when she talks about the change.
What she describes instead is finally feeling strong, beautiful, and confident, and being free of a weight she’d been carrying since childhood that had nothing to do with pounds. The physical transformation happened, but it came alongside, and because of, an emotional one.

Healing Something Food-Related, Not Just Losing Weight
Kati had gone into the program expecting a wedding-prep plan. What she got was something bigger: a real shift in how she thinks about her body and her food, instead of another round of rules to follow until the wedding was over.
“You can love yourself and still want to change things about your body. You can love yourself and still want to be better. True self love is being honest with yourself about what isn’t working, taking accountability for your health, and knowing you have the power to change it.”

Accountability, Even From a Distance
Kati has only met her coach in person twice. Even so, she calls the weekly check-ins and consistent communication her favorite part of the entire experience, and the one thing that had been missing from every program she’d tried before.
Beyond the check-ins, she points to the relationship itself. Getting to know her coach personally, and having someone who could help her see herself through a different lens, mattered as much as the programming did.

Building a Physique While Life Never Slowed Down
Kati achieved this while working travel night shifts, planning a wedding, and becoming a wife, all in the same stretch of time. She trained in whatever gym she could find on the road, prepped meals when her schedule allowed it, and made sure she got her steps in on the days that gave her nothing else to work with.
She never waited for a calmer season to start focusing on herself. The progress came from showing up in hundreds of small, imperfect ways instead of one clean, uninterrupted stretch of time.

A Transformation That Became a Team Effort
Kati wasn’t the only one who changed. Her husband joined the program alongside her and lost 40 pounds of his own, and came off blood pressure medication he had been taking before he started.
For Kati, whose own motivation included a strong family history of cardiovascular disease, watching her husband come off medication entirely made the work feel even more worth it. What started as wedding prep for one became a shift in health for both of them, and a head start on the family they’re hoping to build.

A Lifelong Journey, Not a Countdown to a Wedding Date
Even with the wedding behind her, Kati doesn’t see this as finished. She considers it a lifelong journey, not a program she completed. The habits and lessons she built are ones she plans to carry for the rest of her life, and eventually, pass down to her own children.
Her Advice to Anyone on the Fence
Kati doesn’t hesitate when asked what she’d tell someone hesitant to start.
“Take the plunge. It is absolutely worth everything. It changed my life in unimaginable ways and allowed me to take my life back.”

Kati’s turning point wasn’t a wedding date. It was finally putting down a weight she’d been carrying since she was a kid, and building a life where food and her body weren’t something to fight anymore. And it didn’t stop with her. Her husband walked the same path and came out the other side off medication he no longer needs.
KMAK Fitness is built for people navigating demanding schedules, major life events, and everything in between, who still want a real, lasting change, together if that’s what it takes.
