Roshni and Tapan Patel: How to Get Fit Together as a Couple

Roshni and Tapan Patel: How to Get Fit Together as a Couple

Running on Empty, Each in Their Own Way

Roshni and Tapan Patel didn’t sign up with a plan to learn how to get fit together as a couple. They each arrived at KMAK Fitness with their own goals, their own frustrations, and their own version of feeling stuck. But between the portion lessons, the new training plans and 60 pounds lost, that is exactly what they ended up figuring out.

Roshni knew the pattern by heart. She would get motivated, start working out, build a little momentum, and then life would step in. A vacation. A family event. A couple of missed sessions. And just like that, the routine would slip away and she would be back at the beginning. It had happened so many times that she could see it coming before it arrived.

“I get on the bandwagon and I drop off after I go on vacation or have an event and I miss a couple workouts.”

Meanwhile, her body was sending signals that were getting harder to ignore. Persistent knee and back pain had started affecting her ability to do her job. Her cholesterol needed attention. Her clothes didn’t feel the way she wanted them to. And underneath it all was a tiredness that never seemed to lift.

Food was its own tangle. After long shifts, she had nothing left for a thoughtful meal, so dinner became whatever was easiest. Eating out made good choices even harder. And then there were the two foods she loved most and had never learned to manage.

“I also love rice and bread. I need to learn to limit it or portion control it.”

Her reason for wanting more was never complicated. It was the same reason that had been there through every restart.

“I want to be healthy for myself and my family.”

Tapan’s challenge came from a different direction. He wasn’t short on desire. He wanted to tone up, put on muscle, eat healthier meals, and cut back on drinking. What he was short on was time, and a clear picture of how any of it actually fit together. He didn’t know how to build a training plan or a meal plan, and like a lot of people, he assumed that turning up at the gym consistently would eventually take care of the rest.

Both of them were tired. Both of them knew something had to give. What neither had was a system that would still be standing when real life got busy.

Online Coaching? Tapan Had His Doubts

Tapan didn’t sign up without reservations. KMAK coaching is fully online, and he genuinely wasn’t sure it could work without someone physically there with him. No face-to-face sessions. No daily in-person check-ins. For someone who had never had a coach before, that felt like a big thing to give up.

He went in anyway, and he adjusted. What he discovered was that the structure, the plan, and the accountability didn’t depend on being in the same room. The program worked, and it worked around the life he already had, which was exactly the problem time had been causing him.

For Roshni, the decision meant facing her own history honestly. She had started before. The real test was whether this time would survive the first holiday, the first big event, the first missed week. Doing it alongside Tapan gave her something none of her past attempts had: a partner on the same plan, at the same time, under the same roof.

Learning What Nobody Had Ever Explained

The biggest shifts for Roshni and Tapan didn’t come from working harder. They came from finally understanding what they were doing and why.

Nutrition was the eye-opener. Once they learned what a proper portion actually looks like, they started seeing just how oversized standard servings are, especially when eating out. Restaurant plates that had always looked normal suddenly looked like two or three meals. That awareness changed everything, because it meant they could make educated choices instead of guesses, whether they were cooking at home or sitting down at a restaurant.

For Roshni, this spoke directly to the habits she had wanted to change. Eating out no longer meant abandoning her goals. Long shifts no longer had to end with whatever was closest. And rice and bread became a question of how much, not whether, which is a far easier thing to live with for the long haul.

For Tapan, the lightbulb moment was about muscle. He had believed that simply going to the gym was enough to start building mass. Through KMAK, he learned the process is more deliberate than that. First you get to a lean baseline. Then you build muscle on top of it. Once the sequence was laid out for him step by step, it made total sense, and it gave him the very thing he had said he wanted at the start: a fitness plan that actually works, and the understanding to create one.

Somewhere along the way, their goals changed too. They came in focused on losing weight. As the weeks went on, the target shifted toward building strength and muscle. That is what happens when people stop chasing a number and start understanding their bodies.

The Results: 30 Pounds Each, 60 Pounds Together

Roshni lost 30 pounds. Tapan lost 30 pounds. Between them, 60 pounds gone, split right down the middle, earned side by side.

For Roshni, those 30 pounds represent something her previous attempts never reached: a result that came from sticking with it rather than starting over. She now has the tools she was missing, from reading a restaurant menu with confidence to portioning the foods she loves, so that a busy week or a trip away doesn’t have to undo everything.

For Tapan, 30 pounds down is phase one done. He has reached the lean foundation he now understands has to come first, and he knows exactly what comes next. The man who once thought showing up was the whole strategy now understands the strategy.

And for both of them, the goal has outgrown the scale. They’re no longer just trying to get smaller. They’re working to get stronger.

Their Advice: There Is Nothing to Lose

Ask Roshni and Tapan what they would say to someone on the fence, and their answer is refreshingly direct: there is no good reason not to take the step.

They put it with a bit of humour, too. The only thing you stand to lose by starting is some extra body fat.

For anyone wondering how to get fit together as a couple, their experience points to a simple place to start: get on the same plan at the same time, and let each other’s progress pull you forward on the days your own motivation dips.

Tapan has a particular message for anyone hesitating because the coaching is online. He had the exact same concern. He wondered whether it could work without daily, in-person contact. It did. The thing that matters isn’t whether your coach is standing next to you. It’s whether you finally have a plan you understand and the support to follow it.

And Roshni’s story speaks to anyone who has started and stopped more times than they can count. Falling off before doesn’t mean you will fall off again. It may just mean you have never had the right structure behind you.

The Long Game

When Roshni and Tapan first joined, they were asked where they saw themselves in two to five years. Their answers had the same thread running through them: not a quick fix, but something that lasts.

Roshni wanted to reach her goals and then sustain the lifestyle for a long time. Given how many times she had dropped off in the past, that ambition says a lot. Sustainability was always the real goal, and now she has the knowledge to make it possible.

Tapan wanted to be healthier and stronger, and he was clear about how long he intended to keep at it.

“I want to carry on what I learn for the rest of my life.”

With the lean phase behind them and strength now firmly in their sights, the next chapter is about building. And this time, they’re building it together.

Ready to Stop Starting Over?

Maybe you recognise yourself in Roshni: the one who keeps getting back on track, only to lose it after a holiday or a hectic stretch of work. Maybe you’re more like Tapan: motivated, but short on time and unsure how the pieces fit. Either way, the missing ingredient usually isn’t effort. It’s a plan you understand and people who help you stick to it.

KMAK Fitness gives you both. And if you have been wondering how to get fit together as a couple, bring your partner to the call. Roshni and Tapan are proof that two people on the same plan can go a lot further than one.

The first step is a conversation. Everything else, we’ll figure out together.
