Sejal & Deepan Patel: How to Get in Shape With a Newborn and a Full-Time Job

Full Plates, Two Diets, and No Time Left Over

How do you get in shape with a newborn and a full-time job? Dr. Deepan and Sejal Patel didn’t have a theoretical answer to that question. They had to live it.

Their story didn’t start in a moment of crisis. It started somewhere quieter: a physician and a new mom, running a household with a newborn in it, and a life that kept handing them reasons to put themselves last.

Deepan had a career as a physician in New Jersey and a routine he’d kept up for years. He was training. He just wasn’t seeing results, because no one had ever shown him the right way to eat or train for his own body. He wanted a chiseled, low body fat physique with real muscle, especially through his legs and arms, but effort alone hadn’t gotten him there.

“To look and feel better about myself and ultimately reach my maximum body potential.”

Sejal’s fitness history looked different, but the frustration was familiar. For years, her training had one goal: getting thin. After having their son, she wanted something her old routine had never given her, real muscle, a toned physique, a six-pack she didn’t think was realistic for her body. The bigger obstacle wasn’t the gym. It was believing there was ever going to be a right time, with a baby, a job, and a household all pulling at her attention first.

“It feels like it’s never the right time to achieve my goals and some other part of life always takes priority. But there will never be a good time until you start prioritizing it.”

Deciding to Commit, Together

For Deepan, the hesitation was whether real structure would actually work for him after years of effort with nothing to show for it. For Sejal, it was something more specific: the idea of recording herself for form checks felt awkward, and she wasn’t sure an online program could give her feedback that actually meant anything.

They joined anyway, and decided to go through it side by side. Working with the same coach gave them one point of accountability instead of two separate ones, someone who understood both of their goals and could see how their progress fit together. For Deepan, that meant finally understanding his own body instead of following a routine that wasn’t built for him. For Sejal, it meant guidance she’d later call the best she’d received, feedback that made the accountability feel real rather than performative.

The Process: Two Plans Under One Roof

With a newborn at home, training was never going to happen at a gym on somebody else’s schedule. Both of them trained entirely from home, building a routine around naps, feedings, and a physician’s hours that never really let up.

Nutrition brought its own puzzle. Sejal was vegetarian. Deepan wasn’t. Instead of one generic meal plan forced onto both of them, they each got guidance built around their own diet, their own goals, and their own body type.

For Deepan, that meant finally learning to eat and train in a way that actually built the muscle he was after, and identifying the habits and exercises that had been quietly working against him. For Sejal, it meant something closer to a mindset shift: learning to eat to fuel her body, with room for the occasional splurge, instead of eating to shrink it. Working out stopped being something she fit in only when her schedule allowed it and became a fixed part of how she lived.

Through it all, they kept each other accountable. On the days one of them was running low on motivation, the other one was already showing up. Slowly, the question that had followed them into this program, how do you get in shape with a newborn and a full-time job when neither of you ever really clocks out, started to answer itself.

The Results: 52 Pounds, Two Transformations

Deepan lost 22 lbs and built visible muscle in his legs and arms for the first time, with a body fat percentage low enough to finally reveal it, all without ever stepping foot in a gym.

Sejal lost 30 lbs postpartum, and for the first time in her life, put on real muscle instead of just losing weight. She got the toned physique and the six-pack she once assumed weren’t part of the equation for her.

Together, that’s 52 pounds down and two bodies neither of them had seen before, built inside a home with a baby, two careers, and two different diets to navigate.

What They’d Tell You

Deepan’s advice is direct: once you decide to start, commit to it completely. Follow the plan and trust the coaching, because the results only show up for the people who do.

Sejal encourages anyone still hesitating to set their reservations aside and join. She describes the program as a full lifestyle change, one that touched everything from her kitchen habits to her daily step count to her actual workouts, and says her biggest takeaway is that these results are possible even for someone who was completely new to the gym and to resistance training.

What’s Next

Deepan isn’t finished chasing definition. He’s continuing to build muscle and push toward the physique he originally set out for, carrying the same discipline that got him here into whatever comes next.

Sejal’s vision reaches further out. She wants to hold onto what she’s built long term, not just hit a number and stop. And she’s already thinking ahead to a second pregnancy, with the plan to return to these same goals on the other side of it, the same way she did the first time.

Could This Be Your Story Too?

Maybe you’ve asked yourself the same question: how do you get in shape with a newborn and a full-time job. Maybe your version looks a little different, a demanding career, a packed household, a schedule that was never built with a workout plan in mind. Either way, Deepan and Sejal’s story says the answer isn’t waiting for more time to open up.

The problem was never their schedule, their careers, or their newborn. It was access to guidance built around the life they were actually living.
