Puja Patel: How to Get Toned & Lose Weight Postpartum
A PhD Candidate, a Toddler, and a Body She Didn’t Recognize
Puja is a full time university teacher and a PhD candidate, deep into her dissertation research, and mom to a two year old son. She moved to Seattle a few years ago to start her doctorate, and has been strength training since she was 18, training straight through her own pregnancy without a second thought about how her body would hold up afterward.
Square Negative Five, Not Square One
Her body didn’t hold up the way she expected. She left the hospital and couldn’t recognize the muscle she’d spent over a decade building, and two months of physical therapy only helped so much. She was already back at her pre pregnancy weight, so losing weight wasn’t the issue. What she was actually chasing was how to lose weight and get toned postpartum in a way that rebuilt real strength, not just a number on the scale. At 15 months postpartum, still running on almost no sleep, she decided to join KMAK Fitness to finally get a real answer, one built around her actual life instead of a generic plan.

The Why Was Never About How She Looked
Puja wanted to feel like she was in her own body again, to play and run around with her son without her body holding her back, and to build a foundation she could rely on if she and her husband decided to have another child. She couldn’t imagine going through another pregnancy feeling as weak as she did after the first.
“I want to feel like I am in my own body again. I also want to be healthy and strong for my son, so I can play and run around with him.”

Rebuilding While Everything Else Was Already Full
There was no open stretch of calendar waiting for Puja to prioritize herself. Between teaching full time, writing her dissertation, and raising a toddler who wasn’t yet sleeping through the night, she started the program severely exhausted and pushed through anyway, because she believed it mattered for her son to see her show up for herself.

More Than Instructions, Real Tools to Sustain It
Working with her coach, Puja learned that maintaining her fitness isn’t nearly as complicated as she once thought, now that she actually has the knowledge to back it up. Other programs told her what to do. This one gave her the education and the tools to sustain it herself, long after any single program ends.
Fifteen Pounds Down, and a Body Rebuilt From the Ground Up
For Puja, learning how to lose weight and get toned postpartum meant something different than it might for someone else. It meant body recomposition, not restriction. She lost 15 pounds and rebuilt real, visible muscle in her core, glutes, and legs, watching strength come back that she thought she’d lost for good. She points to two takeaways that mattered more than any single number: knowing she’s capable of doing hard things, even at her most exhausted, and finding her way back to the confidence that had always come with being strong.

A Family That Changed Alongside Her
Puja’s husband joined the program alongside her, and the impact reached further than either of their individual results. The nutrition support changed how the whole family eats. Her son now actively asks for vegetables, broccoli included, and has started mimicking his mom by doing push-ups around the house.

Building Toward the Next Chapter, Not a Finish Line
Puja isn’t training toward an event or a deadline. She’s building toward the next few years of her life: more energy, more strength, and the ability to be fully present with her family. Every postpartum mom quietly wondering how to lose weight and get toned postpartum, while juggling a full plate and almost no sleep, deserves to know it’s possible. Puja is proof.

Ready to Write Your Own Story?
Puja’s turning point wasn’t a single event on the calendar. It was a mother who looked in the mirror sixteen months postpartum and didn’t recognize her own strength, who found her way back to it one week at a time, in the middle of teaching full time and writing a dissertation. And it didn’t stop with her. Her husband walked the same path alongside her, and now their son does push-ups on the living room floor because he watched his mom do them first.
KMAK Fitness is built for people rebuilding through the busiest, most exhausting seasons of life, who still want to feel strong in their own bodies again.
